Review: The film uses motifs from children's stories by L. N. Tolstoy, his pedagogical articles, letters, and memories of the Yasnaya Polyana school. The village teacher, whose letters to L. N. Tolstoy are read in the film, sees the meaning of his work not simply in teaching a child to read and write, but in educating the personality of a child. The film vividly and figuratively presents a huge mysterious world seen through the eyes of a child.
